Ms. Granholm is excited any time she finds a product labeled: “Made in the USA”. She points out that we have been offshoring most of our manufacturing jobs (and, therefore, goods) and offers some solutions to bring American Manufacturing jobs back home. This is called insourcing. American manufacturing and exports have been the backbone of the American economy until 1980 when we switched over to a consumer spending approach to measuring the economy (one that is fatally flawed). We need to get back to the basics: manufacture in the U.S.; buy things made in the U.S.; and export our manufactured goods to other countries. We’ve have lost our way. We only manufacture 5% of what we need. We have had enough of “creative” accounting.
